I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Google (Mountain View, CA) in Feb 2018
Interview
I was contacted after applying, as I had gone through the interview process before. I did one HR phone screen, one online coding interview, and 5 on-site interviews (3 coding, 1 Linux knowledge, 1 branching strategies). The difficulty of the interviews was based on a self assessment I provided.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
NDA so I can't talk specifics, but in general:
- Coding questions around random numbers, string manipulation, grid search, stream processing
- Coding questions to re-implement two common Linux utilities
- Long discussion about how to design and roll out a distributed build and test system
- Discussion about branching strategy; for me it was Git, as I know it best, questions focused on choices made and their tradeoffs, handling unusual situations (i.e. bugs after release, security patches, hotfixes, etc.), and difficulties presented by the model as a whole
- Other questions about bash and Linux fundamentals
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Google (Boston, MA) in Jul 2025
Interview
Very professional process. Every person I interviewed with was very professional. You are give all the information you need to go through this process. It can seem intimidating at first. There are multiple interviews. They explain to you the subject matter of the interviews. They provide material from which you can study. They even personally reach out to you if you do not get the position. Most companies just send an email or ghost you. I would recommend this company to a friend.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 12 months. I interviewed at Google (Mountain View, CA) in Mar 2019
Interview
Had 5 on-site interviews and lunch with employee. In ~2 weeks got a call from recruiter that I have an approval from hiring committee but there are no open positions. It is been more then a year since, couple of recruiters changed during that time and finally my hiring committee approval has expired :( So even though I passed interviews I never got an offer.
