This was a phone interview; the interviewer was a recruiter for a start-up, and obviously screening to determine if I met the qualifications for the job. And one of the worst interviews I've been involved in.
First is the fact that the interviewer selected the time for the call, yet failed to call me at the time she selected. I waited 15 minutes for the call before inquiring by email, then after 30 minutes called to find out what happened; I was told she was on another call, so I left a message. Shortly afterwards she emailed me with an apology saying she had me down for another time, despite that the time we agreed to was in the email. Well, mistakes happen, and I was interested in the position, so I agreed to reschedule for the next day.
That interview lasted about half an hour -- most of which was taken up by the recruiter talking about herself. Maybe that was because she had quickly determined I did not have the skills the company that hired her wanted. I honestly can't say: the job description specified a knowledge of SQL, but of an entry-level quality, yet except for one question, none of her questions touched on SQL, nor of customer support skills. But I did learn she worked as a recruiter for 17 years, and considered herself very up-to-date on the latest technologies.
She ended the interview with a comment that she would communicate with me one way or the other if the customer wanted to interview me, and how important letting applicants know this information was to her. This interview was almost two weeks ago, yet I have to hear anything further from her. From the silence I assume I was not considered further for this position.
