Position Applied For- Product Manager at HT Media Labs (ottplay.com)
Interview Date: February 24
Review:
I recently interviewed for the Product Manager position at HT Labs, and unfortunately, my experience left much to be desired. The interview was conducted by the product head of HT Labs, and from the outset, the atmosphere was quite unpleasant.
The demeanor of the interviewer was markedly rude, and it felt as though she had already formed a negative opinion of me before the interview even began. This made the entire experience frustrating and uncomfortable.
Throughout the interview, the focus seemed to be more on trivial matters such as my job transitions and notice period rather than on my qualifications and experience relevant to the role. The interviewer fixated on insignificant details like the duration of my employment at previous companies and the specifics of my notice period, which seemed unnecessary and irrelevant to the discussion at hand.
Furthermore, there was a distinct lack of openness to different perspectives or circumstances. The interviewer appeared unwilling to consider nuanced responses and instead insisted on rigid, narrow answers to her questions. For instance, when I mentioned being based in both my hometown and another city, she reacted dismissively, demanding "straight answers" without acknowledging the possibility of dual residency or flexibility in work arrangements.
Additionally, there was a concerning lack of appreciation for accomplishments and a tendency to belittle achievements. Even when I provided concrete examples of my contributions, such as improving onboarding dropoff rates, the interviewer seemed unsatisfied and excessively critical. This created an environment where it felt impossible to showcase my skills and accomplishments effectively.
Overall, my impression of the interviewer was one of unprofessionalism and arrogance. It is disheartening to encounter such behavior during the interview process, and it raises concerns about the work culture and management style within the organization. Based on my experience, I would caution others against pursuing opportunities with HT Labs unless they are willing to endure unnecessary stress and scrutiny.
