      Dishwasher/Busboy Interview

      11 Apr 2019
      Anonymous employee
      Canton, MI
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at IKEA (Canton, MI) in Apr 2019

      Interview

I applied via IKEA's website. The next day, I received an email from a regional manager, Megan Cabot, asking to schedule a phone interview. I scheduled it for four days later. When the day and time I scheduled it for arrived, I was called by Megan. The phone interview lasted about thirteen minutes. She asked me some basic questions involving customer service and my past jobs. She also described the job, the duties I would be in charge of, told me a bit about IKEA and what the company was about, and told me what I'd be making per hour. She was very friendly and had a very upbeat attitude so that helped ease my nervousness a bit. After the interview had finished, she asked to schedule an in-person one. I made it for the next day. So, the next day comes, and I get there about 12 minutes before my scheduled interview. I sign-in at a counter and wait a little. (I can't remember how long but it was probably around ten minutes. I was early so that's no fault on them.) The Food Operations Leader, Donald Welch, walks in and introduces himself, shakes my hand, and takes me into the interview room. This interview lasted around 28 minutes. He was incredibly charismatic and friendly, so I found myself feeling at ease and not nervous anymore. He asked me about the same questions as Megan on the phone had. We also talked a little about my previous jobs, as he was interested in what I had previously done. He also asked a couple of new questions, concerning what the people at my old places were like and involving situations with teamwork. He then proceeded to tell me about the position, the duties involved, what I would be wearing for a shift, what I can't have for this job (such as no nail-polish, no jewelry, have to have short and clean fingernails), about the benefits, about IKEA, about their diversity of employees, and about the company. He said he was going to mark "yes" for me and that he would email the regional manager he had been colsulting with and tell them that they can make me an offer. He said to expect them to call the next day or the day after that. So, today (my in-person interview was yesterday) I got a call from Megan offering me the job! I accepted and she sent an email for me to officially accept the job via their website. I accepted and then was emailed other forms to fill out. I am currently awaiting their third-party company to email me about the drug screening and background check. It was a very fast process and I felt it was very efficient! Both people were a pleasure to interact with and they made my experience a positive one. I look forward to starting my career at IKEA!
