I interviewed at InMobi

Interview

It was such a pathetic experience. I would have given zero or negative rating if that option was there in glassdoor. Interviewer was so immature. He did not know anything. He just thought whatever he was saying was correct. He was literally saying taking inputs via REST API and Console and UI are exactly same. He did not understand how to do good design. just some fancy names he had in his mind and some prebuilt solution he had in his mind. He wanted me to think exactly the way he was thinking about the solution. He did not understand that no design is best. Every design has pros and cons. Instead of listening to me, he was just more focussed towards how my design was not looking like a standard design which he had in his mind. This was one of the worst interview I have had. Because of this bad experience, I dropped in between the interview and I don't recommend anyone to waste their time with this company.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 days. I interviewed at InMobi (New Delhi) in Feb 2021

Interview

I was interviewed for the blink & blend team - Android developer role, SE3 level. The interview usually have 3-4 rounds. HR tells me to prepare as they hire folks from Google and all. So I thought this will be a tough 1. Even though I have cleared Google coding round before. In reality it was the most time wastage interview I gave. Round 1 - Android fundamentals. This was pretty easy one. Basic android questions. Round 2 - Tools, design, Architecture There was a lot of focus on analytics style architecture where you need to keep lots of data in sync with backend. And some android fundamentals. At this point I was told the response is positive and we will have an HR manager round. But then later I was told there will be a 1hr coding round before we proceed. Round 3 - Coding Interviewer starts asking Android fundamentals for 15min and then realised this was a coding round. He also thinks this was a 30min round, I didn't contest him. He then spends next 15min asking about some basic data structures and AVL tree. At this point I have not written single line of code. Next day I called HR and he tells me we couldnt get a conviction from these 3rounds. I felt the process was very immature. I would have rejected even if it was positive. The interviewers didnt seemed like I would learn anything from them.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at InMobi (Bangalore) in Feb 2021

Interview

It was for Glance. Overall not a good experience. Very weird and loosely bound structure. The TA had contacted me over Linkedin on Jan 4th. I had replied positively. Then there was silence till Jan 30th. I sent a followup mail and then received a call from the TA. TA told he was on sick leave and had handed over my case to his colleague (TA2), and he is surprised that that colleague didn't reach out to me. Then the exploratory round was set up for 1st Feb with the Hiring Manager. The HM talked to me for 30 mins, seemed convinced. He explained the process, that, there will be a case round, then 3 more rounds. I said fine. Received the cases the same day, solved it by next day & submitted. Then silence again. Followup 1: after 3 days of submission, on call. Followup 2: After 5 days. Last followup: By the 7th day, on mail. 8th day the TA2 contacted me. She gave me 2 pieces of info: 1) The team reviewed my case solution and found not up to the mark. 2) Team 'was' already interviewing other candidate and decided to go ahead with that candidate. My interpretation & feedback: Going by the series of events, and the actual verbatim from the TA2, I felt that the decision was already made even before my process was started. For 1 month they missed to contact me, and I was the last minute 'check this too' patch. If so, very unprofessional. Now, 1) Solving a case and submitting within a deadline needs considerable effort. If you can not read it in time and do not have the courtesy to come back to me, then that shows your attitude towards the process. Also, if solving a case needs 24hrs (including the existing daily chores), then reading it won't take 7 days, and that too with followups. 2) Your TA had missed to loop me in initially and patched me after a delay of 28 days. If you have already selected someone else in this span of 4 weeks, then a) Have clear decision on what to do, b) Don't waste a candidate's time by asking to solve a long case and c) Have the professional courtesy to reply to a candidate in time. An 'interview' is the place where the TA & interviewer get to define the culture of their company, and this was apt!

It was a chill interview. Resume based only. Some case based scenarios for which you have to provide logical answerers. There were some guesstimates. They will test your knowledge on the company, what they do, products and how they operate. multiple rounds of interview. similar questions with different panels.
