I applied to be a Lyft driver in Atlanta, Georgia. I filled out a short form online and Lyft responded quickly. The person interviewing me was called a "mentor." I downloaded the Lyft app, but got stuck trying to fill out my address. My mentor suggested signing out of Facebook, then uninstalling and reinstalling the Lyft app again from the Google Play store. I followed the instructions and that did the trick. I spoke with my mentor on the phone and via text message and scheduled an interview with my mentor the following Monday at noon. I spent the weekend thoroughly cleaning my car and preparing it for the interview. On the date of the interview, I met the mentor at a nearby location. He took pictures of my car, driver's licence, and insurance card. Then he showed me how the Lyft app works and how Drivers respond when a ride request comes in. A driver has only 15 seconds to accept a request. I then took the mentor for a ride around the block as he gave me information and answered my questions. I was glad to hear that I would be driving under Lyft's insurance and not my own. Unfortunately I was not offered any special perks or bonuses for signing up or enlisting other drivers. The mentor was nice, knowledgeable and professional. The whole interview process went by very quickly, and I believe took less than half an hour. I am now waiting to hear from Lyft after a background check, a process that could take from 1 day up to 45 days.
