The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Macy's (White Plains, NY) in Feb 2012
Interview
I've worked seasonal at Macy's and have been to interviews at other locations and I can say getting an interview with them is easy. After completing the application and assessment received an email saying they got my submission and I will be emailed if anything. About 3 days later, I received an emails offering an interview and to pick a time slot that best worked for me. When I arrived, I met with a dept manager who primarily focused on my seasonal experience at Macy's but the questions can easily be applied to prior retail jobs. They were questions such as ever had to deal with an irate customer, what is your definition of customer service and how would you sell a product to a customer. After this interview I was told to come back the following Tuesday to meet with the dept manager for kids, since they had open positions there. This interview was more of a follow up then anything since she just told me bout my availability and pay. I applied for a full position but settled for an on call since my school schedule conflicts with how the scheduling system works, at least for a full time position. All in all, pretty smooth and easy if you have retail experience and common sense.
Was interviewed for a seasonal position. Was told they have no seasonal positions, once they found out I was a college student. Made no sense to me quickly ended the interview.
The interview process was straightforward and fairly quick. It started with a phone interview from a recruiter or hiring representative who asked general questions about my background, availability, and interest in the role. The tone was professional but conversational, and the interviewer focused on making sure I could handle a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
I had one interview with the store manager and it lasted for about 45 minutes. The interview was all standard behavioral questions. I was offered the job on the spot.
