      I applied online. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Macy's (Costa Mesa, CA)

      Interview

      I found the listing on Craigslist for holiday season hiring, which instructed interested applicants to apply via the Macy's website. I completed the online application that particular evening. It also asked to list the top three Macy's locations you'd like to work; I applied to all three of them. The very next morning, I received an interview e-mail invitation from one of the three locations. Very quick response! I was given the choice to schedule my interview online on my own. I picked the very earliest opening that I was able to attend, which was the very next evening. (I read how very quickly the positions can get filled up if you schedule too far out.) I wore a black tailored blazer with the matching black suit pants and a mauve collared dress shirt. I also came prepared with my professional legal portfolio and a pen. (This shows the interviewer that you are definitely taking this job opportunity seriously, regardless of the position you're applying for.) I got to the AST (Human Resources) department 15 minutes before my scheduled interview time. I checked in with a friendly well-dressed man who asked for my name and instructed me to have a seat until I am called in. There were two other applicants ahead of me waiting for their interview on a couch. It was very busy; I observed much of the staff and applicants walk in and out of the nearby rooms. I assume they were interviewing applicants back to back. While waiting, I found myself casually chatting with a fellow applicant next to me. She was called in, and I wished her good luck. (It helps to be friendly and polite with your fellow applicants; you may never know if the staff passing by are keeping mental notes of how well you interact with others. ) About 10-15 minutes after my interview time, I was called in by a man who I observed to see walking back and forth between rooms. He was very personable and friendly, thanked me for my patience and apologized for the workflow. He inquired about my availability I put down, and I clarified my huge flexibility to work on the weekends and possibly weekdays. (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday availability is a MUST!). I was asked 3-4 questions that are very familiar to what you can find in other Glassdoor interview reviews. I assumed it was going well, because he smiled at me and nodded his head while taking notes. (Rehearsing my answers to possible interview questions helped me A LOT at the real interview!) After the questions, my interviewer excused himself to check and see if there are available openings. When he came back, he offered me the job on the spot. I began to fill out my basic info right then and there, and he took me over to the next room in which I was given an on-boarding packet to take home with me. I thanked my interviewer for his time. And now, here I am recounting my whole application process for Glassdoor. My training and orientation is tomorrow. TL;DR: Very quick process. Dress professionally. Typical retail interview questions were asked. Very friendly and personable staff. Weekend availability is a must. Having a go-getter, positive, flexible, and open-minded attitude already brings you a step ahead of the rest. Always thank your interviewer, and shake his/her hand before and after the interview if possible (I didn't get to do this, but it definitely can't hurt your chances).
