The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Macy's (Sherman Oaks, CA) in Jan 2009
Interview
I applied online & was scheduled for a group interview. During the group interview, there were direct questions about prior experiences in retail & dealing with customers as well as personality questions like, "If you were an animal, which would you be & why?". After the group session, each applicant was taken out for one on one interviews. Mine was pretty quick, just some simple questions about the departments they were considering putting me in. I should have familiarized myself with the store layout ahead of time because since I admitted that I didnt know what the Impulse deptarment was, they placed me in the private label, INC, instead of the higher end designer area. In the end, the people they hired on the spot were the ones who were dressed fashionably/professionally, indicated positive outcomes to difficult customer service situations, and the people who were active in the conversation instead of just sitting back & waiting to be directly asked questions.

Question 1
If you were an animal, which would you be and why?
Was interviewed for a seasonal position. Was told they have no seasonal positions, once they found out I was a college student. Made no sense to me quickly ended the interview.
The interview process was straightforward and fairly quick. It started with a phone interview from a recruiter or hiring representative who asked general questions about my background, availability, and interest in the role. The tone was professional but conversational, and the interviewer focused on making sure I could handle a fast-paced, customer-facing environment.
I had one interview with the store manager and it lasted for about 45 minutes. The interview was all standard behavioral questions. I was offered the job on the spot.
