      Mars Engineering Leadership Experience Interview

      2 Jul 2026
      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Mars (London, England)

      Interview

After the application, the first stage was a hirevue interview which had a few questions. Asked about why you applied, personal development, why you want to be a leader and what your experiences are. Re-attempts were allowed. The next stage was an online assessment centre (AC). The first activity was a business case study where we were given the option of choosing 1 of 3 different units and deciding the best option based on several factors. Had to then create a presentation 1.5 hours. After presentation, I was asked how I would deal with various different problems. The second part of the AC was meant to be a competency interview but it turned out to be a grilling session to say the least. Throughout the interview, the interviewers were smirking whenever I answered a question and showed no interest in what I had to say. They asked questions in a very condescending way which honestly made it very hard for me to answer properly. It seemed like they thought that I didn’t deserve to have the interview at all. And even if I made a small mistake during the interview, they were quick to mention how I was completely wrong to be thinking this way. It felt like they were purposely trying to trip me up so that they could score me lower for the interview. They also asked other questions like “Why you didn’t do a YII” and “What experience you have abroad?”. These questions weren’t a problem themselves but when I responded, they seemed extremely disappointed and had the expression on their faces that they were wasting their time but I don’t remember either of these things being a requirement in the job description. If they had, I wouldn’t have applied. I honestly wish that I never applied here. I never realised that I would be subject to this type of treatment from such a big, well-known company. If they were going to treat me like this, why even bother inviting me to the assessment centre???? It’s the worst assessment centre that I’ve been to and it has most certainly lowered my confidence going into future assessment centres.
