      Interview

Unprofessionalism and lack of care reaching new heights (or should I say, depths?). I applied via a form on the company’s website. About two weeks later, HR reached out to me. The initial call was fairly standard, and she asked me about my legal work setup. I'm a foreigner living in Spain and can only work here on a B2B basis, so I explained that — and mentioned that I plan to move to another country next year. She assured me that a B2B contract with a Spanish self-employed worker was completely feasible, but added that this might vary by country. Some countries, she explained, pose legal challenges for their company’s B2B contracts. Fair enough. The next stage skipped straight to the CTO. This surprised me, as it's usually the engineering lead or a senior developer who handles the second interview. The CTO explained that all the developers were busy. We talked about business, values, goals — again, pretty standard stuff. His final question circled back to my legal work setup. He then mentioned that, as far as he remembered, their company couldn’t accommodate B2B in my situation, but he would need to confirm with their legal team. This conversation took place on a Friday. By Monday at 9:00 AM, I received a (clearly scheduled) rejection email from him. This reflects a total lack of respect for candidates. Questions like "Can we work with you legally?" should have been resolved by the first stage at the latest — ideally even earlier, via email. The whole process seemed chaotic. The CTO appeared to be doubling as HR and engineering lead. Yes, that kind of startup.
