I applied online for the Sales Manager (Expat) role at Odds Scanner and was invited to a first‑round screening with HR. The call was strictly limited to 30 minutes, which felt far too short given the scope of relocating internationally. As I began to share key achievements from my 10‑plus years in sales leadership, the recruiter repeatedly interrupted, urging me to “go faster” and “summarize.”
This emphasis on speed conflicted with the assurance that there was no urgent deadline for filling the role. In my view, any expat assignment—uprooting a career, family and cultural life—deserves a deeper, more respectful exploration. A 45–60 minute discussion, ideally including the hiring manager, would allow both sides to assess strategic fit, relocation logistics and so on.
