I was introduced by one of the VC's to the company. The VC and the founder were looking for more experienced management. I flew out to North Carolina and talked with the Founder/CEO and the VC. We went over what he thought was going good for the company and what was going not so good. We talked about marketing, sales, stability of the product and what was needed to be successful. I felt that they were going after to many markets, enterprise and the SMB market at the same time. Both these markets have different needs - even though the product "could" fit and help both these markets. But every time they would go after the enterprise market, the sale would drag out because in a sense they were competing against Dell, Oracle, HP, etc. And these big guys could slow down the sale. Like I said, "I don't wake up every morning wanting to compete with IBM." From there, we decided to set up a new corporate entity and go from there.
