      Interview

Phone screen - Pair coding interview (an easy robot moving program and you need to extend 2 features, with an algorithm wise optimisation follow up question)- Culture fit. Got response for each round after about 5 calendar days. The HR is very helpful and responsive. You will get a detailed introduction about what you should expect before each round. Just one thing that they will send you the repo for pair coding interview about 15mins before the interview starts, be sure to have a sneak peak to prepare better.

      Software Developer Interview

      22 Aug 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at REA Group in Aug 2024

      Interview

I don't recommend applying if pair programming as a daily practice is not your cup of tea. Round 1 - 30-minute recruiter screen Round 2 - 90-minute pair programming with two senior engineers. Extend toy robot simulator in language of your choice. They give you the Github repository link just before this interview. Round 3 - 60-minute team match I was told that the only negative feedback for me was that I was iffy on daily pair programming when asked during team match interviews. On reflection I like pair debugging for difficult bugs/problems, but I don't think pair programming everyday for routine and straightforward tasks is a good fit for me. I also personally think the codebase I was given for the technical round (round 2) had quite unorthodox code style, and there are cleaner ways to structure it.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Think about your stance on pair programming as a default daily mode of working. No other company I've interviewed with had the same emphasis on pair programming.
