The Life Story interview was a 30 minute chat with one of their Talent Acquisition agents. It went well, though he started off with asking what kind of student I was in high school, which I found strange.
I was invited to take part in the Technical Interview a week later. They send you a preparation document, which I found mostly unhelpful. They recommend making your own trial store to help "immerse yourself in the platform" and state that those who open a trial store do better in the Technical Interview, but I found this was not at all the case for me. The role-playing questions I was given had nothing to do with any of the tasks they suggested doing in the preparation document, which I found to be misleading. The questions seemed tricky and I felt that it was a bit much for an interview with someone who doesn't have the experience yet. However, their preparation document did say they would be asking questions that they receive often.
The Technical Interview was 1.5 hours and consisted 2 simultaneous chats, followed by a phone call, a typing test, and then an email. All of these were timed. They stress that they are not necessarily looking for the "correct" answer during these tests, but I think they are, or at least it plays a bigger factor in their decision than they are letting on.
The entire process, from application to rejection, was 5 weeks, which is ages but understandable as they said they had received 1000 applicants for the position. I really felt that I should have moved on to the next stage (reference check), but I guess with that many applicants, you can be pretty picky. They boast about having a great training program, but the feedback I received seemed to me like they are trying to hire those who they can spend little time training.
I regret the amount of time I spent on my Trial Store, considering they did not ask if I had done it, and it was not helpful in the Technical Interview. Keep that in mind if you apply! I will probably keep my eyes on the Careers page to see if any other positions come available, though their rejection email says I cannot apply for this same position for at least 6 months.
