I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Starbucks (Saint Louis, MO) in Jan 2013
Interview
-Applied online and received a call the next morning to schedule a phone interview.
-Scheduled a phone interview the next day, which lasted a total of 45 minutes. Questions mostly consisted of "Tell me about a time when...." and reviewed my resume and qualifications.
-After the phone interview, I was told that she would like to progress me on to the next step in the interview process which was an interview with two district managers in a local store.
-I had the interview 2 days later. The interview lasted about an hour and started with a coffee tasting. You must be passionate about coffee and able to talk about it intelligently. Next, I was asked more behavioral based interview questions along with several questions that involved following the "STAR" model. Situation, Task, Action, Result. You must follow this format when answering each question presented to you.
-At the conclusion of the interview, I was asked if I had any questions for the interviewers. Well of course I did! I asked several questions relating to store volume, labor analysis, financials, organizational structure, etc.
-I applied for a Store Manager position, and later that day was offered a position as Assistant Store Manager. I happily accepted because it was a way to get my foot in the door with an awesome company that has great growth potential.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
How have you recently contributed via community outreach and what were the results of the contributions? Starbucks loves individuals who are passionate about benefiting their community!
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Starbucks
Interview
Phone interview with a recruiter who expects STAR style answers. The questions are pretty standard and easy to find online, so prep isn’t hard. Honestly, the toughest part, if you’re already an internal employee, is getting the interview in the first place. You really have to show your managers that you’re serious about moving into the role.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We appreciate your input and will take it into consideration as we continue to improve our interview process.
I applied in-person. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Starbucks

For an external hire, pretty normal for an interview. For an internal hire, they basically want you to answer as if you were a robot. They want you to answer by telling a story in the STAR format (Situation, Task, Action, Result)
