      SOX Compliance Senior Associate Interview

      25 Nov 2017
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Bengaluru
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at State Street (Bengaluru) in Nov 2017

      Interview

The first couple of telephonic rounds from Boston (AVP and VP from SOX onshore team) were really good. The interviewers were well behaved and well prepared. They asked me relevant and practical scenario based questions that were relevant to the job description/profile. However, my F2F interview experience at Bangalore office (i.e on 16-Nov-2017) was really bad. First of all, the person (AVP) who was supposed to take the interview, was busy in a meeting. Someone else (Team Leader from different process & profile) took the interview on his behalf. The person, who actually took my interview, saw my resume and the only question he asked was why I wanted to leave my current organization so early. I explained the reason which I told you as well when you first contacted me. The most absurd thing was, he asked me the same question at least another couple of times during my interview. I am not sure what was going on in his mind or whether he had any hearing problem. He asked me some theoretical questions. I answered all of them (except one) based on my practical work experience and knowledge on SOX that I have been doing for past three years. The interviewer clearly told me that he wasn't interested on answers based on practical work experience. I realized that he was expecting some answers that he had prepared from somewhere. By that time, I understood something was wrong and I asked him if he was from the same profile. He replied that he was in regulatory reporting team and not from SOX profile. I did not understand how can someone from another profile take interview of a candidate to hire for SOX profile? Meantime the person (AVP), who was supposed to take my interview, entered the room. He saw my resume and with a strange manner asked why I wanted to leave my current organization so early. Then, he asked me whether I was still in the payroll of my current organization. I was a bit surprised by that question and did not understand what he meant by that. I told him very clearly that I am a permanent employee and definitely in the payroll of my current organization. I must say, he lacked decency and professionalism while talking to me. That was the only question he asked and left the room in a hurry as if he had to catch a flight. I did not understand why he entered the room and why he left. I am really surprised to see such a huge difference in terms of decency, mannerism and professionalism between the interviewers at Bangalore office and Boston. I have a suggestion for the HR. If you guys have problem with candidates leaving their current organization early, do not process their profile for the interview because it is a waste of time for both the parties. Now, I have got some idea on how things work at Bangalore office. I don't think I will be interested to apply for any position in State Street in near future. It takes a lot of time and effort for a company to build the brand value and reputation in market but takes much lesser time to lose the same.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1. About my current profile? 2. Basic theory and bookish question (as he himself was not knowing regarding SOX audit practical approach) 3. Difference and Similarity between COSO and SOX (Never experienced anywhere this kind of question) - My answer was COSO provides framework to SOX compliance. But he was asking me difference. I wonder how can anyone ask this? God knows which answer he was looking for!!!! 4. How do you identify risk? What is designing?
