      Non Representative Claims Adjuster Interview

      14 Oct 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Alpharetta, GA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Travelers (Alpharetta, GA) in Oct 2015

      Interview

Phone interview was smooth. But I never applied for the position. The recuriter found me in Careerbuilder and asked me to apply for it. The screener preps you for what can be expected and what not to say. Weird that they would do that. They send you a employement and backround check authorization. You are subjected to a 3.5 hour assessment which includes writing a freestyle response to a complaint from a customer. You get 15 min. These are timed tests which include math skills percentages, word questions, but you get a calculator. Also, there are grammar and punctuation tests so if you cannot spell, it will be revealed. The most difficult test was a maps section. The passage gives insight to the facts of loss from an accident and you have to choose which map is ideal. You spend so much time doing that and you can miss out in the remaining portion of that section, which deals with easier policy questions like uninsured/comparative negligence/identifying comprehensive vs collison accident.. I did not need to fully read the passages because I knew the most possible answer for these type of questions. There is also a listening exercise at which point they will play a conversation and you have 1 min to answer 5 multiple choice questions. When you are done with each section, they will grade it. After you are done, a manager comes in and pulls each person out and tells you if you passed. If you did, you are invited back for an interview that afternoon. The interview is a standard one with managers. Very minimal situational type questions. They are more interest in questions like, why them, why are you leaving your current job, where do you see youself in 3 years, calender and task management, coworkers who don't pull their own weight, how do you handle distractions, etc. I gather that they want to see how organized your are. You can really talk a lot about your talents, current job and how it relates to the position. I asked several questions about their expectations. It was about 30-45 minutes long. After, you are asked to shadow a coworker for 10 minutes. Not sure how much feedback can be retrieved from this but at least you see where they work and get an idea of what they do on a day to day basis. In the end, I was not successful and they pursued other candidates. The interviewers (1 male, 1 female) lied to the recruiter and told them I was not engaged and gave yes/no only responses to them. He rarely looked at me and looked disinterested but she was great to converse with. I gather that I may have been too arrogant when in reality I was overly verbose and very, very well prepared. There was no room for yes/no questions and you cannot have a 45 min interview giving yes/no answers. But with any interview process, you never know what they looking for. I gather they are tired from this process as they have been looking for 2 months. I will never know the truth. Just be prepared to dish out a 8am-2pm time slot. What a waste of time and energy for me as I was told I would not ever be considered for a claims position. You would think they are hiring for a government job and not for a adjuster position in the low 60's.
