I had a phone screening and in-person interview. Both went well, at least to layman's eyes.
My drug test and background check both came back clean, but I was rejected from consideration for the job before they were processed, so it appears I might as well have not taken them. This was a bit irritating, since they demanded I do both on an extremely tight time schedule(within 48 hours) and the testing facility was 20-30 miles away.
Given the fact that that they didn't even wait to have all of my information before rejecting me for the job, it doesn't seem that they were seriously considering me for the position at all at any point in the process. The way I was rejected, the timing and the wording used by all indicate that the job was essentially filled before I even applied. much appears that the recruiters have a minimum amount of interviews they must schedule and will do so even if the job opening itself no longer exists. Since my summary rejection(By email! Heaven forbid they call.) I've contacted them for clarification on the grounds for rejection, but hit a stone wall - My dozens of hours of time were disposable, you see, but their five minutes is much too valuable to spend on someone from whom they've already extracted a bonus-related milestone.
My advice would be to make this a "back burner" job application, since there's no way to tell if they are seriously considering your application. Certainly don't agree to travel for a job application unless they front the costs, as it appears the recruiter's pay is somewhat tied to getting you through the process by any means.
