      Salon Manager Interview

      15 Feb 2024
      Anonymous employee
      Carbondale, IL
      Accepted offer
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Ulta Beauty in Dec 2012

      Interview

1 phone interview with the salon manager recruiter, a personality test, and then a face to face interview with a different recruiter (not sure what her exact title was but she seemed to know the hair biz) I have been a stylist for almost 10 years and have not had a "real" interview in at least that long so for obvious reasons I was especially nervous during the phone interview. Much more comfortable with the physical interview. Both of the women that I interviewed with were very pleasant and nice, professional and they seem to know exactly the type of person that will fit this position. I interviewed for the salon manager position at a new location that will be opening and found out a few days after the final interview that my husband got a promotion and they are transferring him to another state. I looked at the careers section on the ulta website and actually found that an ulta less than 15 miles from our new location is looking for a Salon Manager! I am in the process of interviewing with the GM at that location. With this being such a busy time of year it has been hard for us to get a chance to talk more in depth. At this point I am not sure of my status. I figure that since I have had 2 interviews with corporate and the GM at this new store I am interviewing for, they have an interest in myself and what I can offer to the company. I have nothing but good things to say about each of the 3 woman I have spoken with. They all seem to be passionate and happy with their careers at ulta.......Fingers, eyes, and toes crossed for me ;)

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

the most unexpected questions were in the first of the 2 online personality quizes. example: "I have been in my share of trouble." do you...strongly agree...agree... neutral/neither....disagree ..... strongly disagree. Well.....everyone will have a different view of trouble based on many factors- religious beliefs, how and where they lived. The morals and values of the people that were close to them....etc....so many different factors here. to that question I think I answered "agree" I'm 35 now and when I look back at my late teens and into my 20s.....yeah, I was in what I think was 'my share of trouble" Ive never been in any legal trouble. Didint really do anything illegal . I did go out alot with my friends and many times worried my mother to death and other times made her really angry. Ive done things i am not proud of and things I wish I could go back and undo or redo. But, isnt this how it is for every single person on earth? Hasnt everyone been in "their share of trouble"? from their perspective or someone elses? I kill a spider without question. To 1 person I may seem like a hero...to another a vicious monster. ...that is my extended version . The interviews with actual people were very pleasant and after the initial phone interview ( i was so nervous!) I did and still am enjoying this enterview process :)

      Interview

It was pretty standarg. I wasn't expecting the 'technical interview ' but I understand 💯 why they do it. After 6 years of interviewing and conducting interviews and technicals, DO NOT SAY YOU CANT FIND MODEL! If you are looking for a CAREER and not just another job. It is so worth the extra effort! Literally, this is the BEST company I have ever worked for. FULL BENEFITS! Medical, dental, vision, 401K, tuition reimbursement....and that's just scratching the surface (all employees were taken care of during covid and as soon as the state allowed we welcomed back to their position!). I was able to build a solid clientele in the 1st year and reach $100K in service sales within 3 years! If you are driven and want to work, you can easily make 6 figures here a year as an Elite Stylist. So, if I COULD find model; 2 months after I had decided to completely relocate and get a fresh start, with 0 clients and living 1hr 15min from the Ulta that recruited me....YOU CAN TOO.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

They just asked questions about me, my prior careers, what my 5yr plan is, and how I am with teams, stylists, customers, client's, sales, etc.
