      Manager Mechanical Engineering II Interview

      31 Aug 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Houston, TX
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Union Pacific (Houston, TX) in Jul 2012

      Interview

Had to provide my own transportation for the first interview. (had to fly from FL to TX) NOT CHEAP. they also did not provide any assistance with the cost associated with the interview as other railroads do. Interview its self was pretty straight forward, preview of the different roles you would play in that position, one on one interview, and a series of IQ tests. The IQ tests were a bit "old school" using scan-tron and pencil ( most places use computers these days). The whole process took about 6 hours. very slow at giving a response (almost a month). second interview takes place in Omaha, NB and this time around they do provide travel and lodging. The interview process consisted of two different interviews with two people at the same time, one of which worked as the hiring manager of the department you were applying for. Had a couple of other info sessions giving more details about the job. Over all they have the highest starting pay for the four big railroad companies in the US for this job but be fair warned that railroad work is a lifestyle not a "job" and this is stressed at both interview sessions.
