      Flight Attendant Interview

      27 Jul 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Newark, NJ
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at United Airlines (Newark, NJ) in Jul 2015

      Interview

The entire process took about two weeks. I was more than interested in applying for the position (obviously) but I had known that they were strict on NO COMMUTING! Nevertheless after applying online I received a video interview with HireVue a day later which I completed. Two days later I was told that I was invited for a F2F interview in Newark, NJ. They provide the flight the day before and the day of the interview but you have to pay for your own hotel room. I arrived the day before - got in late. I arrived at the airport around 7:30 and the group interview was at 9:00 AM. You are given a gate pass and told to wait at a certain gate. Promptly at 9 AM three flight attendants arrived and checked our IDs. (I am on my way home from this interview as we speak ... ) You are taken to a secure location by shuttle. There was only about 20 of us in the group. The reason why they are hiring so many people is because they are getting new planes in - and for every plane they need 200 flight attendants. The other candidates are kind as we're all anxious. You meet other Sr. flight attendants and are taken into a room where you watch a 15 minute video on the company and the positon. My main concern was about training .. the training is 5 weeks in Houston. Alot of people interviewed are either being stationed in NEWARK - SAN FRAN OR BALTIMORE as a back up!! Just FYI .. For training you are NOT paid but you are provided with accommodations in a hotel room in which you are assigned a roommate. Training hours vary but you're only off day is Sunday. Now - your training ends on a FRIDAY and you are expected to be in your base and working THAT FOLLOWING THURSDAY!! You have to report to training within 2 weeks but I was told that if I am offered the position to take the first one because it will place me just a little bit higher on seniority. After the video you have the chance to ask questions. Ask anything you'd like. They are kind and friendly. After that you are called back one by one and are asked questions for about 30 minutes. I know that I killed the questions but contrary to other reviews here .. me and two other people were sent back after our session. You are brought back to the airport after your interview. I remember reading reviews here and thinking, "Okay, I didnt get it..." than I read some where you are e-mailed or called the day after. We shall see. OH - there is $100 deposit to secure your place in training BTW. Now my thing is .. you are literally asked to PICK UP YOUR LIFE (which i know is part of the job) but once your in training you are expected to room with the people that you make nice with .. or a crash pad. I prefer to live alone. THE 5 DAYS THAT YOU ARE FLOWN HOME YOU ARE EXPECTED TO PACK UP YOUR HOUSE.. AND MOVE TO THE BASE THAT YOU ARE ASSIGNED!! NO QUESTIONS ASKED!! 5 DAYS TO PACK UP YOUR APARTMENT OR HOUSE AND TO GET ANOTHER ONE! Unlike other companies they are so against commuting. In Delta's training video they have a segment on COMMUTING - United hates it! Alot of things to take into consideration. Personally, i think that there better airlines out there. Advice: keep your options open! This is not the only airline. You can do another position .. (CSR, Ramp / Baggage Handler) and still have great benefits guys. Just remember that. I will update if I got accepted. Be positive - go in there and smile and be fully aware of what you're getting yourself into. SURE, flying to Miami for a weekend is FREE - but that can't pay your bills. Your PERKS are part of the paycheck. Know where you are in your life and truly think about if this position works for you. Blessings to you all.
