      Senior Marketing Manager Interview

      25 Feb 2018
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Positive experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Wayfair (Boston, MA) in Jan 2018

      Interview

I sent my resume and cover letter into their website, for a particular position I saw on BuiltInBoston. In the cover letter, I mapped my relevant experience base to the position description. To my amazement, they emailed and asked to set up a phone call with David Fernandez a senior recruiter. After speaking with David, he said the next step was to have a 45 min. behavioral interview and 45 min case study over Google Hangouts. I studied up on the prep materials David suggested and did a mock interview beforehand. These went well and I was invited for 5 in-person interviews over an afternoon. These included the CMO , two business heads and two cases to solve. In the end, they did not offer me a job, but I walked away more impressed with Wayfair than when I started. David Fernandez, the senior recruiter was just superb during this process. He was always straightforward and let me know what to expect at each stage. The materials that he sent to help me prep for the interviews were key in my getting to the next stage. David was also kind enough to offer a debrief interview at the end of the process to answer my questions. I sent about 20 questions and we went through each stage of the process. His feedback was very helpful and I will be better a better candidate for any upcoming interviews with other companies. If you are lucky enough to work with David during the interview process, ask the questions you need to get prepared- he'll give you great guidance.

      Question 1

Tell me about a time you worked with a difficult person. What's the most difficult group you ever had to manage? Case studies are specifically on ROIs, conversion aspects etc. on marketing campaigns. They also explore your business acumen.

      Interview

Most interviews are behavior based but low pressure and casual. There is a case but it is extremely relevant to the job description, so I found it very easy. If you’re qualified for the role you should do well.

      Senior Manager, Marketing Interview

      7 Dec 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Wayfair (Boston, MA) in Dec 2020

      Interview

Very disrespectful process. The initial contact from HR was email from personal account, not using any hiring tool, and was relatively unprofessional verses the other contact emails I have gotten. First conversation is just to make sure you're not wholly unqualified. Tell me about your resume, etc. The second interview went very well, director level, we had a conversation about the role and how my expertise would align with the company goals. Third interview, where I lost the opportunity, was a consultant style math test. They want to see how you perform and think under pressure and give you worksheets prior on how to prepare (my HR rep did not provide until 18hrs prior). Fine, I've never been a great test taker, but I can work through a problem and think about all the teams, department and impacts a marketing campaign can stir up. With COVID, making me live stream a math exam and not be able to use tools like excel, Tableau and the like that I've become accustom to is well, stupid. Also, my interviewer fresh off an MBA and 3 years total work experience didn't make me feel like I was being taken seriously for a senior role. Congrats, you're 150k in debt and therefore able to decide if I'm am a viable candidate for a niche role.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Email scenario; response rates and open rate and a mélange of basic metrics and then you need to crank out an answer. Then talk through if you would test or not. Really not brain surgery.
