      Internal Sales Representative Interview

      25 May 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Yelp (Chicago, IL) in May 2019

      Interview

In total, I've had four interviews with a yelp. This first was a pretty typical screener call, the second interview was conducted over Skype and comprised of two different parts. In the first section, the interview went over some sample sales calls with a group of candidates; It then transitioned to a one on one interview. This was the most pleasurable experience in the interview process for me. The women I interviewed with was very knowledgeable about the position and open to any questions I had. After my second interview, I got an invitation to a different phone call with a hiring manager. I believe I spoke to someone by the name of Melanie, our conversation seemed fairly standard. After we spoke for a while she turned the tables over to me for questions. This is where everything fell apart for me. I wrongly started asking questions about employee retention, top performers at the company, and how yelp approached promotions. The interviewer seemed very hesitant to answer my questions, and at times ever got frustrated with the questions I was aking! She refused to answer the question in any concret from, only using abstract discriptures to answer my direct questions. This immediately threw up a red flag for me. So I pressed the interviewer on these topics. Once I've done that, she stopped the interview, said: "your line of questioning makes it seem like you're not really serious about working at yelp." She then stopped the interview and said she'd get back to me in a weeks time. I do not expect to hear from her or yelp. With that said, should I be offered the job I will promptly reject it. I would have expected a company as well known a Yelp, to act forthright and professional. However, after my experience with Melanie, I know this to not be the case. I was very disappointed with my experience with Yelp and let my offer this piece of advice to any recent grad; they are better jobs out there then yelp, serously dont wast your time.
