Toxic work culture

Pros

- The product and market are hot right now, the CEO and product team have a great pulse on where the need is and are looking to act quickly to fill it. - Hard-working environment, in which everyone is expected to pull their own weight.

Cons

- Toxic work culture. There is always that sense of guilt and judgment if you leave the office before 6 pm. The CEO pushes everyone to work hard and even when something is accomplished, it is used as motivation to work even harder. Is extremely hard on all employees and can create hostility when in a negative mood. - No upward mobility. Career paths are stagnant and there is a much bigger emphasis on the product rather than ensuring that the people of this company grow. - The CEO fires people quickly. This is not even a 50 person company yet but already has fired several people. Either leaders have poor recruitment tactics or are too hard on people. - Send people into the fire. They will assign tasks and projects that are out of scope and experience level and expect you to succeed without giving you the proper skills/knowledge. - Claims they pay competitive wages. However, they offer below-average pay and have no meaningful benefits. - "Work hard, play hard" is the mentality here. You are expected to break your back for the company and expected to party all night.

It saddens us to read your review and learn about your unpleasant experience. We thank you for your feedback and take it to heart. Automation Hero is a young startup moving lightning fast and we know mistakes happen - we embrace them and support each other to learn, grow, and do better next time. We facilitate transparent discussions in our all-hands meetings and encourage all employees and contractors to communicate with their managers/leadership if they have concerns so we can address them in a timely manner. Please find our comments below that hopefully address each concern. -As you pointed out, the product and market are hot right now and our strategy is to see everyone who rolls up their sleeves reap huge success. We certainly are ambitious and encourage each other to take on stretch assignments and grow our careers by overcoming new obstacles. This sometimes does mean longer hours but we never try to impart a sense of guilt. We are all in this together. The challenges are matched by the opportunity. We are proud that our work ethic has resulted in our ability to keep everyone employed through the COVID-19 crisis. -We value diversity and inclusion and have policies to ensure all employees are supported around family, health, and personal time off. This is especially true as a lot of our colleagues are finding new ways to work from home due to COVID-19, including parents and caretakers. -We offer internal development training and opportunities through content created by our education team and through external training and career development resources. -It’s never our intention to “send people into the fire” but in a newly emerging market, there are plenty of uncertainties that we all tackle together and seek to learn from. -We are constantly researching market salaries in our multiple international locations to ensure we offer competitive wages and benefits. -We do not subscribe to a “work hard play hard mentality” and have many employees we value and support who choose not to participate in after-work events. However, we do like to celebrate our wins and holidays respectfully and responsibility though no one is required to “party all night”. Thank you again for your feedback and for the opportunity for us to reflect and do better as we grow. We wish you all the best in your future career endeavors.

Don’t work here in sales

Pros

There are some good people working here

Cons

1 Extreme micromanagement from people who have 0 sales experience. 2 Product issues- how can you tell if the software works during your interview process? You can’t. They have net -2 customers in the US this year because of product issues. Even the demos require a lot of coding and customization. 3 You will not close a deal this year if you start now, they are not hiring to keep up with quota but more as a last ditch effort to avoid bankruptcy. 4 pay is inconsistent across the team, some sales directors make up to $50k more on their base salary. And not one has closed a deal this year.

We appreciate you taking the time to share your insights and understand that Automation Hero may not have been a good fit for your situation and/or experience level. Building a successful start up is hard work and takes a lot of dedication from all team members. While we do disagree with some of your statements, your feedback helps us understand where we need to provide better explanations and background information. We are continuing to develop as a company and have continued to grow our sales each quarter. We do have sales people that have hit their quota for their year and with the continued trajectory we are on will have others that will follow by end of year. Our technical teams make themselves available to answer any product related questions and we have onboarding and weekly opportunities for sales people to learn how the product works, see live demos and understand customer case studies. We offer multiple channels to ask questions and wish we could have answered some of your concerns in a direct conversation. Like most companies, we do use our CRM system and other analytic tools to understand pipeline activity. This can be perceived as “micromanagement” but it’s an important strategy for successful data driven companies and our best sales folks use the data to drive their own success. We are always happy to explain our reasoning. We’re disappointed to hear you did not have a good experience during your tenure at Automation Hero, but wish you all the best in your career.

Toxic Environment Perpetuated by the CRO

Pros

Product: The product roadmap is very exciting. If the product team is able to execute on their goals, this will truly be a next-gen technology. People: There are so many great people working at this company. The Regional Sales Managers are exceptional and the North American SE's are very intelligent and hardworking.

Cons

Your responses to bad reviews are great examples of why people are leaving Automation Hero. Employees have shared this feedback internally and were fired for it. When employees do not feel their voice is heard internally, they turn to Glassdoor reviews. -- Constant Turnover -- About 15 sales employees have left Automation Hero in the past 8 months. With each announced departure, the CEO and CRO immediately degrades that employee on team calls and then threatens any and/all other employees of the professional and financial consequences that will be bestowed upon them, should they also resign. If you put in your two-weeks, you will be terminated before the two weeks are completed. This style of leadership often leads to abrupt departures. -- CRO -- I believe the primary issue at Automation Hero is the CRO. He will come across cool and nice but you will quickly learn he is manipulative, ineffective, unprofessional, and embarrassing. If the CRO decides he doesn’t like you, he will call your direct boss, teammates, and peers to talk poorly about you. He will then continue to ridicule and embarrass you behind your back and ask your teammates to share "dirt" on you so he can build a case to fire you. He constantly gossips/complains about the CEO, Head of Marketing, Regional Sales Managers, and Sales Engineers constantly. He spends a majority of his time manipulating data to make it appear as though he is good at his job, but everyone sees through the facade - aside from the CEO. He is extremely untruthful externally. He tells potential hires and prospects, “we are working with so many global organizations and closing multi-million dollar deals daily.” The truth is, we have 5 customers total, not a single person in the US has ever hit quota, and we have lost more customers than we have gained since his arrival. You will be ridiculed if you are honest and/or direct with customers about use-cases that do not fit our product’s capabilities. -- CEO -- There have been so many reviews on the CEO so I will keep it brief. He is just a technologist that shouldn’t be in leadership. I think he probably built a cool product but he does not have the social awareness or business acumen to go-to-market. We all could have accepted his shortcomings if he were not so dishonest and demeaning with his employees. I encourage anyone considering sales at this company to look at the tenure of the team and ask yourself if this is a strong decision.

We are sorry to hear that this was your experience and we take your feedback seriously. Steps have already been taken to address the concerns raised in this review and improve the culture on our sales team. We wish that these concerns had been shared with us earlier. We have multiple channels for confidential feedback to encourage proactive communication and problem solving. Our commitment is to continue improving and building a company that we are all proud to work at. While some valid concerns were raised here, many of our sales directors report a different experience. We must also point out that some of the assertions are factually inaccurate - for example, you misrepresented our current number of customers and our practice of processing resignations with two weeks’ notice. We welcome prospective candidates and current employees to talk with us about our lessons learned and goals for moving forward. You can always reach out directly to hr@automationhero.ai.
