I’d advise against working here

Pros

I made some good friends

Cons

Toxic environment where it’s clear management don’t care about staff wellbeing. Expected to work longer hours without extra pay. CEO is seemingly intentionally intimidating and rude. Disorganised company, days are often stressful and you’re never offered any support. Some power-hungry colleagues who will throw others under the bus, and it seems to work for them. Embarrassingly high staff turnover. If you like working in an environment where you’re constantly on-edge and publicly ridiculed, by all means apply for BMG.

Absolute hell hole

Pros

Some nice people outside of either the CEOs family (which there are a few) and outside of the clueless “management” teams.

Cons

CEO and his moronic management teams are absolutely clueless about how to run a business and to treat staff. I repeatedly raised concerns regarding quality, and safety issues and was told to ignore the issues on several occasions. These issues would not be ignored at any reputable fashion brand or supplier for that matter. CEO is a bully who unless you establish yourself immediately as someone who will not tolerate his behaviour, (which is akin to a toddler) you will be berated and walked all over. Something which I saw and heard happen on a regular basis during my time at BMG. CEO has a long list of ridiculous rules, sends multiple passive aggressive emails out and fires people on a retailer basis if they disagree with his opinions. Additionally CEO sent out the most appalling messages to staff during COVID, to staffs personal phone numbers. A particular incident which springs to mind happened just before Boris announced the first lockdown. Staff had repeatedly raised concerns that they felt unsafe and were concerned about the contracting the virus due to travelling on public transport etc, all of which fell on deaf ears. Due to this, a member of staff used a private email address to email the CEO pleading for him to reconsider and to value the members of staff and to let them work from home to avoid workers becoming infected and to avoid putting pressure on the NHS. In response to the email, the CEO sent a company wide email and WhatsApp message to all staff advising that the person who sent the email was “spineless” and a “coward” and went on to insist that the member of staff should resign by 9.30 the following Monday and “would not be missed”. Charming, and extremely anxiety inducing during a deadly pandemic. Another corker from the CEO was at the previous years mandatory Christmas “Party”. At the beginning of the event, the entire company sat down and were shown on a large screen all of the fashion businesses which had gone under and made people redundant during the previous year. Essentially saying you’re lucky to have a job with us! Merry Christmas! Moving on, majority of management team are related to the CEO or are so far up his butt it’s unbelievable. None of these so called mangers EVER back the staff they are meant to manage and quite frequently throw them under the bus if it means they escape the wrath of one of the CEOs tantrums. If you haven’t guessed it already, the atmosphere is toxic AF and I couldn’t escape fast enough! Do not accept a job here at any cost!

Pros

- Location of office - A few lovely colleagues, who want to leave as much as you do

Cons

- Toxic culture. - Low Salaries. - Micromanaging. - Undermining & disrespectful behaviour from managers. - Bad Communication and little to no organisation. - Expected to work beyond the working hours, and told that no one should be leaving on time. - Not enough staff for the amount of work expected. - Unachievable deadlines set by managers & directors - No benefits, even though promised them when offered the job. - no work/life balance - No responsibility taken by management for bad decision making. It’s always someone else’s fault. - Management taking ideas from employees and passing them off as their own. - Expected to do multiple jobs at once, rather than the company employing the necessary people to do the job.
