Do Not Work Here

Pros

I can't think of any.

Cons

Highly unorganized place that underpays and takes advantage of all employees. The employees who have been here the longest perpetuate a toxic culture and work environment. Everything about the brand is a facade. The CEO has no relevant knowledge for the brand, does not even have a background as a CEO, and has no clue what they are doing. You have been warned - do not work here. During my time here, around 10 employees quit because the work environment was so toxic.

Pros

I can't think of any.

Cons

The CEO has no idea what their doing and lacks empathy and boundaries. There is a "mean girl" culture here that is the exact opposite of the values that the company and magazine touts. A few employees have undefined roles and are rewarded for bullying and meddling in the affairs of other departments. You've been warned. Everything about this place is a facade. If you have any spark or expert knowledge, leadership will destroy you and make you second guess yourself constantly.

Big yikes

Pros

Lots to learn since everyone wears a variety of different hats.

Cons

The owners, a husband and wife, don’t really know what they’re doing and jump from venture to venture after their last failed. The magazine championed female empowerment, but failed to be truly inclusive and tolerant of the current social landscape with a lack of diversity in the magazine and staff. CEO and Creative Director lacked empathy and authenticity proving Darling’s ‘mission’ was just a façade. Owners constantly employ unpaid interns enjoying the free labor. Low pay for the incredible amount of work that spread employees thin. ‘Company’ overall lacks ethics. If you’re thinking of getting involved in any way with this organization, you’ve been warned.
