Pros

Access to work on mega projects. Collaboration with offices around the world. Flexible hours and somewhat good work life balance.

Cons

I worked at AECOM for a number of years. Considering how large the company is, what I say here may not apply to other offices. With that said, I do not think this is a good place for an engineer to work, especially if you are young. Our office had little work and a large staff for about two years. There was no plan to develop younger engineers. The younger staff gets pigeonholed doing the same work for multiple years and they have no chance to gain new experience and move into a managerial role. When the company bought out URS in 2014 we were forced to take in more staff. The managers were extremely busy and have so many people to manage that they don't really know their employees. You basically feel like a number. Since the managers and senior engineers were so busy, they have little to no time to mentor younger staff. You would be given work and expected to figure out a lot of it on your own. I also worked in one of the most expensive cities in the US and they barely paid us enough to live somewhat close to the office. Again, this was only my experience. I can, however, speak company wide on the weak IT department. It would take as long as a couple weeks to have something installed on your computer. This often would result in wasted budgets and schedules if we needed a specific program for a project. It once took a month for IT to fix a coworkers computer. If you have an issue with your paycheck and want to call the payroll department, no one picks up. It goes straight to voicemail. Very disappointing for a company that is worth so much and is supposed to be a force in the infrastructure industry.

Pros

Decent company, good stock plan, good people who want to see you grow

Cons

Very remote management makes things hard, very little team work is locally siloed so its hard for managers to understand the boots on the ground view. Managers are great people but spread very thin, sometimes they accept work before having staff for it(classic consulting move)
