Pros
Kind and Welcoming staff at Branch in Leyland. Easy job so easy money. Everyone very supportive and a real team dynamic. If you remain a member of staff after the Xmas period there is an online career development plan. You can see that staff who have been there some time are being actively developed to take on more responsibility. So it is not a dead end job. Shifts are varied from 3 to 8 hours.
Cons
No official practical training, other than when you start you go through endless computerised course regarding legal aspects, lifting and financial credit arrangements. But you are very much thrown in at the deep end if you start as a Christmas casual. You will find yourself stuck, not knowing what to do during a busy period and everyone else is dealing with other customers. This can make you look a bit stupid in front of the customer. Some focused training on tills would be great rather than watching a colleague for 10 minutes then told to serve. You do pick it up quickly that way but it leads to some long waits for customers as you try to find a member of staff to help you when you get stuck. Generally you can find someone to help but you know they are busy themselves and will quickly show you, leading to more confusion sometimes. Always being asked to stay later or come in earlier so depending on how you look at that as a neg or pos.
