Pros
New store had a positive feel (bright lights and plenty of colour). Staff rotated roles which kept the job feeling fresh. Flexible working hours were offered with plenty of opportunities for overtime. Appreciated the freedom to make own judgement calls and was shown tolerance and respect in spite of a disability. Wide range of (mostly sociable) customers made shop floor work interesting.
Cons
CCTV stream fed to and monitored by head office created a "big brother" effect. Wages were low (met national minimum) and no incentive provided for working weekends (i.e. increased pay or hours earned in lieu). No-one seemed to know who the CEO was or how B&M was founded which negatively affected ethos (no "common goal"). Break/lunch times given were legal but restrictive.
