Pros

Great exposure to different industries. Company overall repect people's need. Freedom to take long leaves, such as one-month leave. Also, we are provided with lots of opportunities to do secondments, transfer etc.

Cons

Culture is not as good as people claims. Severe political style and game rules that you need to follow. Didn't get the recognition that I deserve. BCG does not judge people by his/her performance in promotion decision, but by his/her loyalty to one boss/ practice area. Also, your reputation plays a huge role in your promotion. But the way to decide your reputation is simply gossip on ADC/CDCs, a group of principals/partners to discuss an associate/consultant that he has never met with. It is not first time that I received unfair decision/ feedback from CD meeting. They came up with things/reviews that never happened. Metal harassment. Bosses blaim people in a very bad manner. I saw many people who are blaimed to tears in the office. Intensive work( common to work till 1~2 am everyday), but sometimes I feel meaningless of what I am doing. Don't know where the value lies. Unwise decisions from PPL/ partners. Seen many bosses who know nothing about client, but keep talking to show his/her presence, and some bosses who make team to redo slides again and again for similiar storylines. I simply don't understand what's the meaning to package storylines for 20 times. Why don't we solve problems for clients, insead of piping up slides? Demotivated after 2 yrs of work. You worked very hard, and your PLs approved your capability, but still, you cannot get promoted because you didn't have someone at CD meeting to back you up. No matter how many achievements you have made, these CD people take it for granted, but if you do 1% thing wrong, they will enlarge the 1% mistake and make it a disaster in your career. What's the meaning for me to work until 2am everyday for you? What's the meaning for me to try my best to give you a 100% perfect deck?

Pros

BCG has top tier benefits, really smart colleagues, good in-office perks, and has a great company reputation. This was a huge part of my experience and has made me go back forth about my decision to leave.

Cons

This is speaking as someone who is not on the consulting side. On my particular team, office politics were very strong with little to no opportunities for people outside of the inner circle to assimilate. More broadly, I feel like the salary trajectory was a little slow, there is a lack of location mobility and and promotions can be hard to come by. Even so, I have personally seen exceptions be made for certain people. More broadly, being located in North America can be difficult since new roles are being open in other regions which is making internal mobility next to impossible. If you have any dissatisfaction with your current team, title, or level - there's a real possibility that you will have to wait multiple years before being able to make meaningful shifts towards your long term career goals.
