Pros

Development department rules are a bit more lax then the rest of the company. The performative "culture" is still fun sometimes. You will find some gems of coworkers and good individuals there.

Cons

Female CEO, and the company still offers no paid maternity leave. Sick time comes out of PTO, and how much you start with — zero or two weeks — depends entirely on who happens to hire you. This is corporate greed in its purest form. The charity work is performative; they treat all but a handful of employees poorly while maintaining a polished public image. Developers can't get machines that don't constantly crash, but there's a $3,000 gumball machine in the lobby and a popcorn machine in the hallway. Raises require a fight, but hey — there's a yogurt bar this month. The pay is not competitive and the benefits are poor. They stopped being a small startup a long time ago, but act like they can't afford to compensate employees fairly — which is interesting given the multiple multi-million dollar lawsuit settlements for conduct that current employees know firsthand to be true. Do your research before joining. The awards you'll see plastered everywhere are largely self-nominated — the marketing department submits the CEO for every award imaginable and then treats the two or three she wins as independent validation. Their reputation with people who actually know the company locally tells a different story. Most recently, entire teams were laid off without severance including tenured employees. One section of layoffs happened right before the holidays. Make of that what you will when evaluating how this company values its people.

Pros

I thoroughly enjoyed working for this company. I was given the opportunity to work within multiple departments, which provided me with a better understanding of the "whole picture" as to how this company operates, and this is something that I highly value. There was a time that I struggled within one department, but Chargebacks recognized the potential within me immediately and moved me to a job for which I was more suited. From there, I was able to move to yet another department, of my own volition, and I quickly rose to become a team lead for that department. After a year or so of working in the department for which I was the team lead, I was approached by management to assist in creating a very new department. I was thrilled and flattered beyond belief. I was able to work with some of the brightest minds within the company, which only lead to additional growth. I also enjoyed every bit of work that I did for this company, even when it got stressful. I found Human Resources to be extremely helpful, open, kind, and supportive, even if I went to them with something with which I was struggling at home and was not even related to work. I knew that if I had a problem, I could go to them for assistance. Had I not had to relocate to a different state, on short notice, I would have stayed on with this company for years more! I loved every manager and associate with which I worked, I loved the nature of the jobs I performed, and, last but certainly not least, I found the CEO to be incredibly inspiring. I also thought that the benefits package offered was good, and I utilized it quite a bit! In addition, if I needed to run out for a doctor appointment, work remotey for a day due to an issue I needed to tend to at home, the company was very flexible with me on this.

Pros

The office culture is genuinely one of the best parts of working here. Everyone is approachable, welcoming, and willing to help without making you feel like an inconvenience. Interns are treated like actual contributors, not coffee runners. I was given meaningful assignments from day one and trusted to handle substantive legal work with appropriate supervision. The company is collaborative at every level. Whether you have a quick question or need to think through something more complex, people make time for you and take your work seriously. The company is willing to invest in and train the right person rather than just checking boxes on a resume. There is a genuine belief in hiring for potential and bringing in younger, driven people who are eager to learn and grow with the company.

Cons

Like most fintech companies, things move fast, which can be a learning curve if you're used to a slower-paced environment. Not necessarily a negative, but worth knowing going in.
