Pros
Freedom of expressing ideas Deep discussions about technical work from top to bottom Some of Middle management is sensible Foraging into opensource and encouraging for new technology avenues For initial part of your career, this is one of the best springboards in the market Senior management has good intention to hear anything and everything from employees Rating is based results which is very good Organization with lot of wizards You will find a lot of individuals willing to work at various levels and they work smart and hard Management is sane to keep the floor happy
Cons
Lot of fire fight which gives no time for exploring new avenues because of lack of strength. Too aggressive because of which predictability goes down in day to day work. With extreme firefight results get affected. It is high time bug rate during development goes down, build breaks go down, regressions go down. Not the highest payer, so hiring is slow which again fuels the fire fight Some of the middle management is guarded strongly by senior management. Expect some bad surprises because of that. Very less regard to the global teams. The team in corporate office is capable of only working face to face. If not in NJ you have less chances of knowing what is going on. Maintaining and tuning work hours for global teams need to be improved, does not mean people on either sides of the globe have to work off hours, meetings/interactions should be smartly agenda based. HR has a dummy role. I feel that funny and sad for them. Is this is the same in other big organizations? I don't think so. Leadership in IDC should increase from technical surrogates to management. Seriously more than 2 offices in India for different departments and still managing remotely is a serious shortcoming. Lot of factors like less retention in IDC (either transfers or attrition) affect probably innovation as you have grease work more than required. Must be self driven through all weird situations to survive. One man decisions in more than one department. Such decisions in product direction is fine but sometimes this is too much power in one person's hand. Time to break up departments and have independent decision making or have more leaders per department. HR must play a good role in policy making and big decisions to ward off bad decisions. Otherwise they should be called logistics and counseling department.
