Job security. Ability to do independent research in free time. Ability /power to buy items which are real costly for research purpose. Very good infrastructure for research.
Cons
red tape. Extremely slow pace of projects. Too much work for people who are willing to work , rest others enjoy at the same salary. Work , pay , promotions are not at all related to each other.
