Pros
- Compensation - Prestigious brand name (not quite like MBBs though) - Intellectually capable people - Office location (for now) - Coffee!
Cons
- Internal culture: For senior hires, the culture is downright hostile (even with country-to-coutry transfers); you'll get a lot more grief internally than from clients; the average tenure of senior hires is between 6 to 12 months... For juniors, it is a corporate drone factory fostering a competitive and clan-like culture, not unlike that of a cult; juniors need to be prepared to breath and eat this forced culture, tolerate a decent amount of abuse and feign veneration at the altar of a handful of seniors whose position is mostly due to their tenure. Lots of people biting the sheets at night... - Environment: in contrast with my expectations given the company's external image, there is an unusual amount of misogyny, jealousy and casual racism coming from senior people. I don't expect it to be the norm at Deloitte, but certainly within this office. - Work life balance: Long hours are the norm in consulting. But here the workload is enlarged by the endless series of actions you have to take to blend in with people who reject newcomers. There is also an unnatural number of burnouts (something like 4 in 10, usually disguised as months of "travel", "time to recharge" or as career breaks). My conclusion: get hired as a grad, grin and bear it for a few years and exit to better prospects (consultancy or industry). Any level higher than Manager, run away!
