Pros

This is a very stable job. One does not have to worry about layoffs, cutbacks, etc. A college degree is not required and salary / bonuses can be quite generous. There are offices in practically every town across the country and relocating is easy. There is a rather steep learning curve but a lot of support locally and from headquarters in getting through it. There are enough industry changes to keep the job intellectually challenging. The hours are consistent and predictable. There is a lot of interaction with clients. The are also opportunities for upward growth in the office, region or even nationally.

Cons

The offices are small, consisting of an advisor and anywhere from 1 to 3 office staff. If personalities don't click, it can be a challenge. The pace can be fast paced so expect to multi-task or get interrupted in the middle of a project.

Pros

They have allowed the HBA’s (home based associates) to remain remote

Cons

Micromanagers, they say they are okay if you want to apply to another department within the firm but the minute you do it’s like you get a target on your back. The pay doesn’t match the workload and the word is that you have to quit and then come back to make what you should already be getting paid. Benefits are terrible but 401k is pretty good
