Pros

Gilead pays well, on the higher end of the biopharma industry. The scientists at Gilead are brilliant.

Cons

Leaning too heavily into DEI has resulted in hiring unqualified leaders, including at the top levels of the company. This is very demotivating. Some leaders play favorites. This has led to some terrible hiring. Not an inclusive culture if you don't have the same politics as company leaders. If you are even a moderate poltiically, you will feel very isolated. Efforts to diversify the portfolio have not yet borne fruit so HIV is everything. No balance or respect for fact that employees have lives outside of work. I have traveled on multiple weekends and on two public holidays this year just for internal meetings. I have only had one conversation about development with my manager and she did not follow up or support anything we discussed. Just checked a box.

Pros

Meaningful, mission-driven work with the opportunity to contribute to projects that can have a real impact on patients. Colleagues are highly knowledgeable, supportive, and generally willing to provide mentorship. Gilead also offers strong resources, exposure to different functions within the pharmaceutical industry, and opportunities to work on high-visibility projects.

Cons

Cons: As with many large companies, decision-making and project approvals can sometimes move slowly because of multiple layers of review. The experience may also vary depending on the specific team and manager, and the number of meetings and internal processes can occasionally feel cumbersome.
