Communication from management is often unclear and inconsistent, leading to confusion about shifts, workload, expectations, holidays etc. Staff can be asked to travel in and then sent home or encouraged to use holiday at short notice. Operational and planning problems are frequently pushed onto employees, which damages trust and motivation. The culture feels reactive rather than people-centred, and this is beginning to show in declining sales and weaker customer experience, because disengaged teams cannot deliver their best work.
