Pros

It LOOKS like a good place to work.

Cons

Treats cashiers like they are expendable. Very low raise ceiling. Little or no job advancement opportunities. Cashiers at IKEA have many more demands than other retail stores. It is a very physical job, requiring cashiers to lift, shift and move heavy products. It requires a lot of product knowledge. It requires good interpersonal skills to hear customer concerns and address their issues right at the point of sale. They are "rewarded" with cookie-cutter performance reviews which take NONE of their job demands into account. Actual customer service skills are never evaluated. The Team Leaders are untrained in management and make vindictive, immature, and arbitrary decisions with the people under their charge. They believe micromanagement is a legitimate approach to working with the line staff. There is NO diversity training at IKEA, despite their pretty posters and flags. HR covers for senior co-workers who harass other co-workers.
