Pros

Up until about 2020, this used to be a great company to work for. The work is often times cutting edge and innovative, challenging us in good ways. My immediate colleagues are nearly always wonderful to work with. Sometimes we have a difference of opinion but it usually feels like healthy debate as we then find a mutually agreed upon path forward.

Cons

As I mentioned, this place started changing around 2020 following a major reorganization. Since then, there has been a massive influx of VPs and SVPs, many of whom are not able to articulate their vision and fail to connect with the larger workforce. Senior leadership decisions, direction, and communication are reactionary, confusing, inconsistent, and at times detrimental to employee morale. All signs indicate that the company is going through financial challenges. They cut our PTO and holidays and are suddenly doing random webinars on what makes up our overhead and fringe rates. We have grown in number of bodies but I don’t see that we are growing in skills and knowledge. And with all this growth, a lot of staff are short on project work. There are just so many things off right now and all together they make for a negative experience as an employee.

Pros

I’ve had a very positive experience working at MITRE. The people here are incredibly intelligent, collaborative, and mission-focused. There is a strong culture of knowledge sharing, and I’ve enjoyed learning from so many talented coworkers across the organization. The Talent Acquisition leadership team has been outstanding. Alicia, Rachel, Manda, and Mindy have created a supportive and empowering environment, and they genuinely care about their teams and the candidate experience. Their leadership, accessibility, and willingness to invest in others make a real difference. MITRE offers meaningful work, a healthy work-life balance, and opportunities to continue growing professionally.

Cons

As with any large organization, processes can sometimes move slowly, and navigating a matrixed environment may take time. However, the collaborative culture and supportive leadership help make these challenges manageable.
