Pros

Very broad range of expertise to pull from across the enterprise. Deep bench of technical experts in some areas; largely very collegial atmosphere, people try to be helpful. New CEO thoughtful and transparent. Great benefits excepting vacation days (limited) and their policies around use of sick leave. (Why we have to take vacation leave for Drs appts is administratively indefensible and just plain cheap.

Cons

Egos run wild in some areas-- some smart people who have lived too long in the MITRE bubble and have no clue that their ideas and methods are stale but too arrogant to listen to actual subject matter experts. Inadequate training for "managers" who can't get out of their own way when it comes to BD, or have the skills to manage the inevitable egos that create delivery challenges Communications is (one) Achilles tendon. Great work doesn't see the light of day bc managers and PLs don't have foresight to build-in artifact development into the budget. Once delivered, great projects become shelfware when they could be garnering exposure (for marketing and potentially licensure purposes), yet no one bothers to look for these gems. This problem is further amplified by mediocre corporate comms-- staffed by good writer editors who know nothing about marketing and social media and lack the foresight to dig for these gems. Comms needs to be integrated in order to be effective. So many missed opportunities to amplify MITREs impact over the last several years it's hard to count and very demoralizing to watch

Pros

- Exceptional flexibility to chart your own professional path, allowing you to focus heavily on technical delivery or pivot into management as you see fit. - A wide variety of projects across different domains, offering plenty of opportunities to dive into interesting and impactful work. - The day to day environment is elevated by genuinely friendly, intelligent, and collaborative coworkers.

Cons

- Recent significant reductions in force have taken a visible toll on the workforce, leaving many employees feeling jaded and worn down. - As the work program contracts, there is a growing tendency to simply do whatever sponsors request rather than providing the objective, independent guidance the company is known for. - The internal job market can be incredibly difficult to navigate. If you do not have a strong personal network within the company, finding billable work can feel almost impossible. - The cultural environment is not uniform. Your overall job satisfaction will vary dramatically depending on the specific division or group you land in.
