Pros

Since turnover is so high, most requests for time off are honored because they don't want you to quit. Macy's does give back to communities and are activiely going green. The new employee portal allows you to manage your paycheck online and direct deposit goes through fairly quickly. Schedules are posted for your next two weeks so it is easy to schedule appointments and other personal things. It's a job and those are hard to come by in this economy, but $8.25 an hour does not buy too much.

Cons

You HAVE to open new credit accounts or you will be fired. Customers get tired of being asked and can get really rude. Open positions are filled before they are posted so you really don't get a chance to show interest. I have only seen my store manager once and I have worked here for almost a year. They pay is the pits. I work part-time and I have to pay for parking at the mall if I work on the day shift during the week. Most of the managers are too stressed to give you feedback, and you rarely see them during your shifts. Customers often use the fitting rooms as the restroom so there is always a funny smell in them.

Pros

you get ok pto even as a part timer, not physically demanding, good A/C and heating depending on the weather.

Cons

very low pay compared to other businesses, you only get a 40 cent raise every year. same playlist consisting of 15 songs on repeat and it drives you crazy as time goes on. very inconsistent hours they rarely give morning shifts, you only get the more undesirable shifts like closing which ends at 9:30pm. the sales goals will be exceeded and they hours will still be cut especially around the holiday season. numerous amounts of time where i am left alone at the register on a busy day with no backup and still expected to clean fitting rooms and recover the floor with no help. overall no room for growth, started when i was 18 and am now 20 and have not even been considered or offered a higher position, 2 tiny raises is all i got. i overall feel like my position is bottom of the barrel compared to asset protection, jewelry department, and fragrance sales because they get paid better and make commission while doing less easier work. would not recommend and if you do end up working at a Macys use the experience you have and never stop applying to jobs because there really is no growth here.
