Pros

Amount of paid time off. Discount.

Cons

6 day work weeks during holiday season. It is retail but there can be work life balance if managed from the top properly but it is not. Benefits are expensive. You may see what appears to be good salary but after paying for benefits you are low pay. Poor pay in relation for the position expectations. With the combination of two separate skill sets ( operations and asset protection) there is a massive pay gap. Two jobs combined into one but no workload reduction was made and no adjustment in pay. Workload actually increased. More focus on operations but expectations are high in AP. Expectations are unattainable and you feel as if you are set for failure. Not nearly enough staffing to run a store properly. The higher level execs know this but still expect results and provide negative feedback constantly. Calling out stores in emails sent to all. Attempt to have issues resolved and be ignored. Expected to resolve issues on your days off and your Paid Time Off, yes when you go on vacation time expect calls/texts to handle issues. Work a full day then get calls when away to approve actions when you are off. Work life balance has a different definition here. The job combination interferes with each other - no consistency. Way too many emails - hours in them being waisted. Communication poor. Reduces sales floor staff, reduce support staffing, reduce AP staffing, yet the expectations are higher than prior. Low budget to improve. Doing the same thing yet expecting different results.

Pros

you get ok pto even as a part timer, not physically demanding, good A/C and heating depending on the weather.

Cons

very low pay compared to other businesses, you only get a 40 cent raise every year. same playlist consisting of 15 songs on repeat and it drives you crazy as time goes on. very inconsistent hours they rarely give morning shifts, you only get the more undesirable shifts like closing which ends at 9:30pm. the sales goals will be exceeded and they hours will still be cut especially around the holiday season. numerous amounts of time where i am left alone at the register on a busy day with no backup and still expected to clean fitting rooms and recover the floor with no help. overall no room for growth, started when i was 18 and am now 20 and have not even been considered or offered a higher position, 2 tiny raises is all i got. i overall feel like my position is bottom of the barrel compared to asset protection, jewelry department, and fragrance sales because they get paid better and make commission while doing less easier work. would not recommend and if you do end up working at a Macys use the experience you have and never stop applying to jobs because there really is no growth here.
