Pros
Salaries are very high for skill and experience required for most roles. If you are willing to persevere and have a decent rapport with your manager, many employees get the chance to do some personal professional development (courses, diplomas, degrees etc.) paid for by the company.
Cons
Company is incredibly corrupt. Espouses ethical policies and fair recruitment but the reality is if you are a band 1 and above, it’s jobs for the boys / your mates. Some may still be subject to the veneer or any interview but decisions are already a fait accompli. Perpetual reorganisations mean people live in constant fear of being made redundant and mean that nothing is ever given chance to bed in. I am yet to experience a re-org where any money has actually been saved or where any processes have been improved. So much public sector money is wasted by this company! Contractors must see us coming and love quoting for a job for NR… there’s an inside joke that something that costs £1, NR will pay £5 for.
