Pros

- good discount (but you end up spending more) - great brand name - can work with different cloud providers - it's a job that pays the bills - management says they are trying to improve the culture - many great and hard-working engineers who care about the company - Nordstrom has some very sharp people in the IT org but most of them outside the leadership

Cons

- top-down technical decision making makes very little sense - lacking company sponsored team building - good people continue to leave - young and inexperienced folks call the shots in roles requiring advanced experience - no respect for results and examples of empty promises related to promotions - "sacred cow" directors sacrificing teams, yet still keeping jobs - lack of the long-term approach to execution - the workload is not managed well across teams and there is very little road mapping - inflexible work from home policies - don't trust recruiting telling you will be able to WFH because some people do it - occasional, random unfriendliness in the workplace

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share your experience here. Collaboration is a key pillar of the Nordstrom business model, both in terms of our product and the people who build it. To make this model a reality, we encourage teams to integrate their workflow and divide their workload, however I can understand your frustration in terms of execution. As a company, we are fortunate to have attracted some of the best talent in the industry, but it is the management of our many diverse skill sets that determines our future. With that in mind, I want to apologize if we’ve fallen short during your time with us so far. I encourage you to reach out to me directly at NordTechFeedback@nordstrom.com if you have the time to share any additional feedback. Sincerely, Patrick Welch VP Technology Nordstrom

Pros

Decent base pay, somewhat autonomous, great tip potential.

Cons

The company has changed for the worse since COVID. When I came back the mood of the entire store had shifted. Gone were the days of comradery, customer focus, and taking pride in a job well done. In its place there is a new culture of cutthroat sales, a severe decline in customer focus, and worst of all a new focus on profit over customer satisfaction. When I was told that the amount the store charged for a shoe shine was not enough to do the best job I could for a customer I knew things had gone downhill for the company. Not to mention I watch a manager prey on a mentally disabled person in order to secure a sale, when the person could not understand what was being offered. Sad that such a once great company is now just another greed ridden corporation.
