We’re very sorry this individual feels this way. Neither Grey nor Oxitec’s management team would ever want an individual feeling this way, and we’re sorry we didn’t have a chance to address the issues this person has raised prior to their departure. While we are unaware of any individual having communicated these issues to Grey or the management team during their tenure here, we are deeply sorry that we let this person down. This is not at all the culture that Grey, the management team nor Oxitec employees work hard to create on a daily basis.
Given that we are a rapidly-growing, dynamic and passionate group of people working on big challenges, we work hard to reward high performance while also providing support for those staff who struggle with workload. The management team has instituted a range of programs to understand and then support the mental and emotional wellbeing of our team members and we have programs throughout the company to provide support to our staff during difficult or stressful times. We also have multiple methods by which any employee can voice their concerns, criticisms or suggestions on how to improve Oxitec (including anonymously, which we take seriously). Grey is available to all staff at any time, as is the entire management team, and we spend a significant amount of time working across the organization to foster direct feedback, professional development, and ultimately a culture centred on trust.
Our organization is comprised of people who are exceptionally passionate about our mission. As a result, some people leave our team because the cultural fit is not right. But we do not want this person’s experience to go ignored. In this unfortunate case, it appears we failed with this person, and that’s not okay. We will take stock of how our current programs obviously missed the mark for this individual, and potentially others. Ultimately, we appreciate this feedback, we will work to address how we can more effectively manage these issues, and we’re thankful for the time this person took to provide this response
