Pros

Non-senior staff are generally wonderful and intelligent people. The technology has a lot of potential to do a lot of good in the world.

Cons

The CEO has harassed many people into leaving. He is a hateful, ex US military man who singles out staff members, often driving them to resign for the sake of their mental health. And then he picks his next victim. The management team are weak, often lacking the skills to manage staff without shouting at them. The wonderful and intelligent staff are more often that not, completely stressed out, making for a horrible working environment. Staff surveys are conducted on a regular basis, but no one is confident enough to answer honestly for fear of being found out and their lives then being made miserable.

Oxitec Response
5y
We’re very sorry this individual feels this way. Neither Grey nor Oxitec’s management team would ever want an individual feeling this way, and we’re sorry we didn’t have a chance to address the issues this person has raised prior to their departure. While we are unaware of any individual having communicated these issues to Grey or the management team during their tenure here, we are deeply sorry that we let this person down. This is not at all the culture that Grey, the management team nor Oxitec employees work hard to create on a daily basis. Given that we are a rapidly-growing, dynamic and passionate group of people working on big challenges, we work hard to reward high performance while also providing support for those staff who struggle with workload. The management team has instituted a range of programs to understand and then support the mental and emotional wellbeing of our team members and we have programs throughout the company to provide support to our staff during difficult or stressful times. We also have multiple methods by which any employee can voice their concerns, criticisms or suggestions on how to improve Oxitec (including anonymously, which we take seriously). Grey is available to all staff at any time, as is the entire management team, and we spend a significant amount of time working across the organization to foster direct feedback, professional development, and ultimately a culture centred on trust. Our organization is comprised of people who are exceptionally passionate about our mission. As a result, some people leave our team because the cultural fit is not right. But we do not want this person’s experience to go ignored. In this unfortunate case, it appears we failed with this person, and that’s not okay. We will take stock of how our current programs obviously missed the mark for this individual, and potentially others. Ultimately, we appreciate this feedback, we will work to address how we can more effectively manage these issues, and we’re thankful for the time this person took to provide this response

It's not what it seems to be

Pros

It offers a competitive salary and standard market benefits. Salary payments are credited in time always. It’s a small environment that promotes global integration and facilitates new members to understand the structure. A significant amount of investor cash is raised regularly which grants the company all resources needed to grow and succeed. There a lot of job openings and it is not very disputed.

Cons

The CEO and Brazil’s Leader are constantly harassing people, and always exposing team members by heavily attacking people during meetings and group chats. They enjoy an audience. People having burnouts and mental health issues happen regularly… and they get fired for that. Bonus compensations are supposed to be based on result achievements, although in reality it’s measured in a subjective manner. No clear goals and metrics are previously discussed and agreed between leadership and employee, and by the end of the period, the measurement of the achievements is purely a subject of the CEO mood. The whole company is extremely disorganized by design. All formal procedures are merely there to be shown to auditors. Everything goes through the CEO desk, literally… and don’t expect logical decision making. Team members are forced to work 24-7, and it's mandatory to be at microsoft teams available to immediately respond to messages and take actions regardless if it’s during a weekend, or midnight, Christmas eve, vacation… or even if you’re driving a car (yes, text and drive is a requirement). New ideas and talks about the company problems and improving points are welcome… as long as the top leadership likes what you’re saying… otherwise you should expect being heavily attacked in front of the whole team. Denial is a sport, just take a look at the few responses the company gave to some reviews here in Glassdoor.

Pros

Small environment know everyone well

Cons

Extremely toxic management, CEO won’t let go of anything and dislikes anyone who suggests any form of change. CFO very hard to work with, management archaic and don’t want to move forward, company v stagnant in change. Not agile or dynamic in anyway as they suggest. Horrendous with mental health and well being
