Pros
Protiviti will hire people from the industry so it is possible to join the firm mid-career without having consulting experience.
Cons
The company is struggling compared to larger peers so it has started taking on projects that are more about providing cheap labor instead of skilled labor. The company only does well in a few areas which means if you are in one of these areas and you have an MD that can sell, you can achieve your billable and business development goals. If you are not in one of the few growth areas and or your MD can't sell, you are NEVER going to meet your numbers which will force you into a grind of endlessly writing proposals that go nowhere. The senior MDs are mostly from the former Arthur Andersen consulting and these people are experienced, knowledgable and know how to manage people and projects. The newer MDs (<10 years) tend to use staff as work mules or cannon fodder. The high rating as a great place to work is the result of regular emails and briefings about completing surveys and scoring Protiviti high.
