Pros

- Catered lunches, snacks, and beverages - Challenging work combined with supportive management - Fast growing company with opportunities to advance (in theory)

Cons

- Workloads are heavy, making it difficult to take the time to develop skills needed to advance - Many teams are understaffed, meaning it's hard to take time off without feeling like you're letting your coworkers down, even though it's encouraged by management - Culture of shipping new features fast means that fixing bugs and glitches aren't a high priority.

Remote first culture. If you want freedom of location and a company to truly mean and support it - this is the place.

Cons

Constant change. Nothing to hold on to in this role, compensation, KPI's, tools all change every quarter.

Pros

Legacy Shopify ICs and lower-level managers are excellent and generally quite nice (company's Canadian after all) Caliber of engineering talent is generally high Dev-friendly stack (Ruby/Rails) Bleeding-edge AI adoption with unlimited token budget

Cons

Recently brought over a CTO from Microsoft: he brought with him a lot of not-at-all-nice people who are highly political, frequently rude/condescending to legacy Shopifolk, and make consistently bad/dev-hostile technical decisions Bleeding-edge AI adoption is being used to justify unreasonably increased expectations
