Pros

You get to work on a great product. Shopify does do pretty solid work. There are a few cool people working there

Cons

Salaries are very low Managers are inexperienced, egotistical, and have a superficial understanding of topics. Very "cliquey" They expect you to work long hours, if you leave before 7PM, you can sense the passive-aggressiveness towards you Very few opportunities for career development Overall, it's your typical mid-sized company that's growing too fast and is trying to save money by overworking employees. Feels more like a high school than a professional company.

Pros

Remote first culture. If you want freedom of location and a company to truly mean and support it - this is the place.

Cons

Constant change. Nothing to hold on to in this role, compensation, KPI's, tools all change every quarter.

Pros

Legacy Shopify ICs and lower-level managers are excellent and generally quite nice (company's Canadian after all) Caliber of engineering talent is generally high Dev-friendly stack (Ruby/Rails) Bleeding-edge AI adoption with unlimited token budget

Cons

Recently brought over a CTO from Microsoft: he brought with him a lot of not-at-all-nice people who are highly political, frequently rude/condescending to legacy Shopifolk, and make consistently bad/dev-hostile technical decisions Bleeding-edge AI adoption is being used to justify unreasonably increased expectations
